DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Dec. 15, 2010) – Use evenings and weekends to complete an intensive Water Safety Instructor course and receive the credentials to teach swimming lessons.
Beginning, Friday, Jan. 21 and continuing through Feb. 5, an American Red Cross Certified Water Safety Instructor course will be offered in the L. Gale Lemerand Center at Daytona State College. All classes must be attended in order to receive certification. Participants must be able to pass the pre-test which consists of front crawl (25 yds), back crawl (25 yds), breaststroke (25 yds), elementary backstroke (25 yds), sidestroke (25 yds), and butterfly (15 yds); in additional they must demonstrate that they can tread water for one minute, and maintain position on back for one minute in deep water.
Participants must also possess a Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT) certificate issued within the past 12 months (FIT class will be held Jan. 19 from 5:30 - 10 p.m.) All classes must be attended to receive certification. Classes will be held Friday, Jan. 21, 6 - 9 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 22, 9 a.m. - noon; Sunday, Jan. 23, 1 - 4 p.m.; Friday, Jan. 28, 6 - 9 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 29, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.; Sunday, Jan. 30, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.; and Saturday, Feb. 5, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Course fee is $200; a $50 non-refundable deposit is required at registration. Deadline to register is Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011.
The Water Safety Instructor Certification course consists of classroom and pool time and will be held in bldg. 310 on the Daytona Beach Campus located at 1200 W. Int’l Speedway Blvd., Daytona Beach.
